Carrington - at The Landmark Resort

Oh boy, I almost don't want to write this review.

Carrington is located just outside of Egg Harbor, at the popular Landmark Resort. It's annexed to the main resort, appearing autonomous to the main resort but primarily existing as the eatery for Landmark guests, I believe. But why is it this way, it could be so much more?

Let me explain. Carrington's exudes location quality. Nestled in trees, it overlooks the Alpine Golf course and the bay of Green Bay in the distance. Sunsets at Carrington's are second to none. Their outdoor patio is nicely situated with its panoramic views over the golf course and the bay. Step indoors and you can dine adjacent the large windows without losing your view of the trees and the water. It's gorgeous and ought to be a jewel in the crown of Door County. Think about it. Despite being surrounded by water, there are very few places you can dine in Door County with a waterview. Carrington's could be one of maybe a half dozen or so places in DC attracting diners looking for higher-end dining experience while simultaneously enjoying a beautiful view of the water. But the food at Carrington's is such a disappointment. I've eaten there maybe four times and each time it's been frustratingly below par. My first experience was around a year ago where I chose the tenderloin. As soon as the plate is set in front of you you know exactly what's coming. Frozen 'packet' mixed veggies (carrots, broccoli etc) a baked potato and a steak that's been frozen and broiled to death. I'm sorry but it was awful. Tough and tasteless, bland and boring.

Next time around I moved down the menu to something more affordable, to see if their skills lay in good bar food preparation. Quesadillas / Buffalo Chicken Wrap / Appetizers / Salads - all basically of the same standard - poor. OK, I'm sure thousands have dined there and enjoyed it, I don't care. I'm telling you my experience having eaten there several times.

Again this is so frustrating for me because I see the business potential of having a location like Carrington's and offering something out of the ordinary. It seems that Carrington's is treated as a necessary evil in the grand scheme of what is the Landmark resort. It isn't treated as a separate business with its own profit center and need to be successful. It's even closed for two days per week in the peak season (Sunday / Monday) which I find quite stunning.

This place has so much potential, which just adds to the frustration of dining there.

On the service, it's actually very good. The waitresses are pleasant and efficient and are skilled at presenting the food in a favorable light! They mix a fair cocktail too. The wine is reasonable, nothing special at all, which fits their approach to dining in general.

As someone who has run various businesses, I would kill to get my hands on that place.

No ratings for this Door County Landmark, you can make up your own.

Couldn't agree more.
A poor dining place even by Door County standards. Check out Parador, they're new and pretty good, though without the water views!
