Peninsula Pub Door County WI

I've written reviews elsewhere on dining experiences at the Peninsula Pub (known just as 'Pen Pub' to locals in Door County), so this isn't a full review. I'll include links to other reviews at the end.

Most bar owners tend to be drawn to the trade by having spent a good deal of time on the customer side of the bar, then fancy their chances at making their own successful bar business. Then there are some bar owners who have trained professionally in the bar trade, and some bar owners who are trained, professional cooks. You can usually tell which is which the first time you eat at a bar/tavern. With the Peninsula Pub, it's clearly the latter. The owner is a trained, professional chef, and it shows in the quality and standard of the food. Don't get me wrong, this isn't any kind of pretentious attempt at providing upscale food in a bar setting, it's just good quality bar food, made fresh, and made consistently good.

The Pen Pub has a hot and spicy theme, which suits this reviewer to a tee. They have great hot wings, available with different heat levels, including a 'Kickin' Wing Challenge', using an insanely spicy sauce blend of different peppers and chile extract!

Their other menu items include an excellent Friday fish fry (a tradition in the area), great burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and more.

Their burgers might just be the best in Door County. A thick home-made patty of beef, cooked to perfection, with a wide choice of toppings. They also have a 'Burger of the Day' with some quite unusual accompanying toppings. Burgers topped with spam, burgers topped with chicken tenders, fries, fish.....etc!

So it's a little eclectic in terms of the bar food scene, but you'll always find your traditional favorites at the Pen Pub.
